Education, not restrictions the conclusion of bear attacks review in YNP

After a recent review of grizzly bear attacks, Yellowstone National Park managers have decided against establishing new backcountry use restrictions in the Hayden Valley. The review was in response to two fatal bear attacks within the park in summer 2011, the Yellowstone Gate reported.

In a recent report from Montana’s The Missoulian, a protocol review was done in response to the increase of grizzly bear activities in the six national forests surrounding Yellowstone. Apparently, grizzly bear populations in Yellowstone National Park have expanded, prompting the supervisors of the national forests surrounding the park in Montana, Wyoming and Idaho to take more precautions.

During the summer of 2011 I talked my bride and 13 year old daughter to take a trip with me to the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks. The primary objective was to experience as much of the parks as one week would allow. This meant plenty of driving, but I also wanted to at least get in a few hikes.
